Rufford New Hall

Rufford New Hall. Built in 1798 for the Hesketh family.

In approximately 1912 it was bought by Lancashire County Council and converted into a sanitorium.

The Hesketh Arms Inn, Rufford

The photograph of the Hesketh Arms Inn was taken in the 1920s. The pub was registered as an inn which meant that people could make an overnight stay.

One such group of visitors was a gang of tree-fellers who whilst working in the Hesketh Estate found accommodation at the inn.

There were also stabling facilities for 12 horses and home produced ham and pork were the specialities of the house.
