After
the success of the Family Camp at Sandiway Camp
Site it was decided that another camp would be organised
to involve parents and children within the Group.
Roy
Chadwick (GSL) was the main organiser as
usual and the response for interested campers
was enormous.
Once
the final names were in the adults and children
were split into teams and a meeting of all
parents and adults going on the camp was
called. At this meeting certain parents
were shanghaied into leading theses teams
and the programme for the weekend was discussed.
The
Theme for the weekend was 'The Flintstones' and
throughout the weekend, although there was free
time to try the site activities (Archery, Abseiling
etc.), there were competitions, games and challenges
to try and come up with a winning team by the end
of the camp.
Each
team also took it in turn to prepare the meals
and as usual this worked well and food was of
the usual high standard, the good thing was that
this year we didn't set the kitchen area on fire!
The
competitions ranged from building and racing
Flintstone type cars to It's a Knockout
and the competition was fierce. The Scouts
& Cubs on camp tried their best to win
their events as is normal and most of the
parents just cheated!!!! It was all in good
fun though and the eventual winners were
worthy recipients of the winners trophy
on the Sunday afternoon.
A
camp like this is, as usual, a lot of work for a
few people, but it opens the eyes of a lot of parents
who aren't regularly involved within the Group to
what their sons get up to when they are away on
camp.
