Rufford
Scout Group was formed in March 1935 and became the
14th. Scout Group to be raised in the Ormskirk area.
Photographic evidence is only available (at this time)
from 1951 onwards when the headquarters was a second-
hand wooden chicken shed . This was replaced in 1969/70
by a Marley building at the cost of £2,000 after
many years of fund-raising.
The
members of the Scout Group have, over the decades, been
given many opportunities to experience new activities
(canoeing, climbing, abseiling, ghyl scrambling, go-karting,
water skiing, sailing etc.) and to go on many camps
both home and abroad. The Scout Troop have been to Jersey
several times, Wiltz in Luxembourg (twice), Austria
and most recently (August 2002) Kandersteg in Switzerland
as well as having camped in most areas of the U.K. during
this time.
A feature of the earlier camps such as the Isle of Man
and Llansannan were the visits of the parents and families
for a day in a hired coach. Luckily, cine film footage
of the period 1952 - 1970 was made available to Jeff
Gordon who had it transferred onto video.

etc. about your memories of Rufford Scouts please pass
